1. Select a Niche:
Possibly the best way to get into or forming a gaming community is to first decide on your gaming genre or niche. Try to answer the following questions:
- what types of games you like the most?
- In which games you invest more of your time?
- Which games make you happy?
- About which game you know the most?
Answering these questions will help you decide a gaming niche. It is this niche that you need to focus on when forming or getting into a gaming community. For example: if you like fighting games, and you know a lot about a particular fighting game, then forming or getting into a gaming community that is focused on that particular fighting game is the best option for you. That way you will be able to maintain that community for longer and people will feel more interested in your gaming community.
2. Be Active:
This is very basic but is a must. You need to be an active player/gamer of the game or gaming community that you have selected as your niche. If you are not an active gamer, you will miss out on the important updates. Your community members will not feel that you are worthy of being a part of that community if they find that you are missing out on a great deal. So it is always the best thing to remain involved and be active in games that you play. In case you are trying to play a lot of games at a time, it will be wise to limit them and focus on only a few games where you can dedicate more of your time. It will also help you increase your domain knowledge on those games faster.
3. Be Communicative:
To become a part of a gaming community depends very much on the amount of influence you can create in the game/gaming genre that you have selected. To create influence, you need to communicate. Even if you get into a community and no one notices your presence, it all will go in vain. So, communicate more when playing a game. If you are introvert, you might feel challenged but it is not required to be hyperactive. Just make sure to communicate frequently depending on needs. Communicate just enough to maintain your presence and try to create influence.
4. Give value:
Now that you know that you need to create influence, let's talk about how you can do that. When you are playing games, try to help out others in-game. Even if it is an offline game, try to help out others in gaming forums or other platforms like blogs. For online games, help out people having difficulties in quests, events, share tips, etc. This by no means requires you to share in-game currencies or items. Rather, help out the community to be able to earn their valuables themselves. In some cases, you can share your builds or experience so that others find it easy to start or progress in the game.
5. Community Platforms:
Community platforms are important parts and parcels of a gaming community. The problem is, there are many platforms out there to serve this purpose. More platforms are emerging from time to time. However, there is no need for you to utilize or know about all of them. You just need a handful to create an ecosystem for you and your community. In case you are joining a gaming community, you will notice that they already have listed a few platforms that they maintain. Each platform serves a unique purpose. So, in this case, try to get more accustomed to those platforms. If it is you who is creating a gaming community, you will need to decide platforms to serve the following purposes:
- Voice Communication
- Streaming
- Resource Management
- Member Management
Voice communication is required when you are collaborating in-game. It is maybe a tournament or raid depending on what you are playing. Streaming is useful to create influence and expanding your community. Resource management is required to share tips, useful insight among your community members. Member management is required to ensure that you can have your community connected.
Last words:
There may be many other ways to start and maintain a gaming community but the above-discussed ways are the ones that I have found to be really effective and sustainable. Other ways may not work in many cases if these 5 ways are not followed. What other ways do you think I have missed that are even more important than the ones discussed here? Feel free to share in the comment. Also, feel free to share your personal experience on the matter so that others find valuable. You never know, it may be the starting point for starting your own gaming community!
